Burlington Gymnastics Club 1964 - Today

  • 1964 - our dream began as an after hour school gym club in '64 at John T Tuck Public School under the direction of Ron Edgar and Bob Wiggins.
  • 1969 - moved to larger gym sites: MM Robinson High School and General Brock High School. Started competing gymnasts as the Burlington Aerialettes.
  • 1977 - the dream expanded... incorporated into the Burlington Gymnastics Club Inc. The first club President is the past chairman of the Board of Directors, Noel Thomas
  • 1977-79 moved into a larger rental facility within the Reimer Complex on the South service Rd. We had our first pit.
  • 1980 - the dream was first realized... we moved into the current facility ( 15,000 square feet ) on Maple Ave. Burlington Gym Club was the first owned facility in Ontario to have state of the art equipment, bleacher space so we could host competitions, and a Rhythmic gymnasium attached. Several clubs followed our lead and approached their cities asking for a joint venture agreement as Burlington enjoyed.
  • 1987 - The first Spring Cup was held within the BGC facility... We cleared $500 profit.
  • 1990 - saw the burning of the mortgage. All debts were paid.
  • 1998 - saw the co- hosting of the Canadian Championships in Hamilton arena along with the Burlington BG's.
  • 1998 - introduced central air-conditioning to the entire facility. The summer programs started to increase in enrolment
  • 2000 - registration numbers reached the 3000 level
  • 2002 - staff growth includes: 3 part time office administrators; 12 competitive coaches; 22 recreation day and evening coaches.
  • 2002 - the largest Spring Cup ever with 7 different countries competing and clinics offered for all gymnasts, coaches and parents.
  • 2002 - a new dream begins... approach the city asking for permission to expand the current training facility to accommodate recreation wait lists and more competitors with a 5500 sq ft gym with a higher ceiling.
  • 2003 - the Burlington Gymnastics Club this year offers competitive gymnastics to 130 gymnasts in Artistic Rhythmic and Double Mini Tramp.
  • 2004 - the BGC was named by Gymnastics Canada as " The Club of the Year " and awarded the Ed Brougham Award. The quality of coaching, excellence of programs, contribution to gymnastics within Ontario and Canada are factors in the selection.
  • 2005 - the BGC has expanded into North Burlington offering programs at The Kids in Motion Centre. No more wait lists. Programs available 7 days a week.
  • 2006- the BGC was named the largest club in Ontario, Rhythmic gymnast named to the National Team for World Championships.
  • 2007- BGC is reorganizing its management structure, 2 National athletes card full scholarships to United States universities.
